Let’s start with an Instagram Audit and Checklist to get your Instagram ready for 2023!
Step 1 - Revisit your goals
The end of a year used to stress me out! I had so many things I still wanted to accomplish in my business and at home. YIKES! I was in major overwhelm mode!
NOT THIS YEAR!
This year I made a summary of my business successes YAY, set goals for the new year and made checklists for the end of 2022 so I can start 2023 off right and meet those new goals!
Making the checklists helped so much, I thought my Instagram Checklist would help you too!
Step 2 - Audit your profile
You have about 3 seconds to grab a potential follower and get them to click that follow button.
Step 3 - Audit your content
Let’s analyze your content to find out what content speaks to your ideal client and also helps you reach your goals.
Check your insights from the past year and see what posts resonated with your followers. Think about how to create more content like that…What worked and why? What didn’t? What do those posts have in common?
TRUTH BOMB! Don’t forget educational content is great, but if you don’t talk about what you sell, no one will know what you sell
Step 4 - Research your hashtags
Hashtags are still an important piece of the Instagram puzzle! As you grow your business Hashtags are still one of the best ways for new followers to find you.

Step 5 - aUDIT YOUR Engagement
I KNOW everyone says you have to engage on Instagram to grow and guess what? THEY ARE RIGHT. The only accounts that I know that are seeing consistent growth right now are engagement. Both inbound and outbound!
Engagement is a two-way street. You need to respond to comments and also find new accounts that align with you to follow and engage with them. Remember, we all hate the Instagram algorithm, but we all need to play the Instagram algorithm game. AND it’s fun! Meeting new friends on Instagram is great! Remember, social media is about being SOCIAL.
Step 6 - posting schedule
Think about how often you WANT to post to Instagram. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you need to post every day. Figure out what works for you and stay consistent. Instagram prefers that you post the same kind of content at the same time of each day…Consistency is key!
Go back to your insights and determine what days and time the insights think you should post. THEN post 15-30 minutes before that time.
Also, check out this blog post by Later Media. They determined that “in 2023,the overall best time to post on Instagram is 4 AM (calculated in local time across time zones.)” To find this data, Later analyzed over 11M global image, video, carousel, and Instagram Reels posts.
So test what your Instagram insights say and test what Later Media says and see what works best for your account.
Instagram rewards consistency in the algorithm. Days of the week, time and type of content are all important.
For example, if you post a static post on Monday morning, a Reel on Wednesday afternoon and a Carousel post on Friday noontime Instagram LOVES for you to keep to that consistent schedule. In fact, they expect it and will start to show your posts to more people.
Step 7 - REmove spam followers
Slow and steady wins the race here. Look through your followers and start to remove all those spam followers. Do this slowly and methodically about 10-15 at a time. Instagram doesn’t like it when you repeat the same action over and over and they will think YOU are spam and put you in time out.
The best time to do this is when a new person follows you. Check out their profile and if they are spam just click “remove follower” on mobile.
Step 8 - Clean up who you follow
Go through your Following list and unfollow people who cause you to feel “icky” when you see their posts, people who don’t post anymore, or people you don’t align with. IT’S OK to unfollow people if their content doesn’t align with you.
Again, do this slowly and methodically 10-15 at a time so Instagram doesn’t think you are spam.
Step 9 - Check out the competition
After your account is in tip top shape, check out your biggest competitors and see what they are doing. What works for them, what doesn’t and how can you use that as inspiration for how you manage your account?
Step 10 - stick with it
Put this checklist on your calendar to do on a monthly basis. Then you will know that your Instagram account is always on brand and attracting the clients to you who are most likely to purchase from you.
